2024 Apprenticeships

Bike a Bee has been doing awesome bee work in Chicago for 12 years now, each year with new apprentices who gets to work alongside me, Jana Kinsman. If you want to learn everything there is to know about urban beekeeping, swarm/hive relocation, and native bees, this is one of the best opportunities you can get! You'll also have the opportunity to learn what it's like to run your own urban farming business and network with other incredible urban farmers.

Open to students and young adults. There are two apprenticeship slots available, Wednesday and Thursday. Work takes place between the hours of 9am-5pm, May 8th through September 29th. Sometimes there will be weeks that have extra work days that you're welcome (but not obligated) to join in on.

Requirements:

Willing to work 1 day a week, Wednesday or Thursday
Some days we use the car, but you must have a bike and be comfortable biking. (bonus: rear rack)
You must not be allergic to bee stings
You must be willing to work hard, sweat, and be out in the sun all day.
You must be timely, motivated to learn, and enthusiastic about the natural world!

No beekeeping or farming experience necessary, but you must be curious and willing to put in the effort to learn!

Bike a Bee is based out of The Plant, located in the Back of the Yards (1400 w. 46th st) This is where we will start our day.

I reserve the right to terminate the apprenticeship if I don't feel it’s a good fit.

Applications open NOW! Email bikeabee@gmail.com and send me a little bit about yourself and why you want to learn how to keep bees! No resumes, please. I’ll contact you by April 8th to schedule a zoom/google video call :) Thank you!
